"Blue" (2015)

I count my days and count on suns,

Tell the girls to wait.

I count on nights and count my moons,

Oh, tell them it’s too late.

Well I thought I’d meet you here,

At the shadow’s edge.

Where the daylight disappears,

And the sounds are bending.

Today my window’s holding rain,

Tell them come back home.

I guess it’s pouring everyday again,

Oh tell them not to go.

I thought the sunlight settled here,

Amongst the scattered dust.

I watched it glisten in the air,

All the dead and rust.

I count my blessings and the stars,

But can I count on you.

I feel so far from where you are,

And I keep thinking are the skies by you blue?

Blue as the rain, as my pain, as my tears fill up again?

Blue, like a bird? Your lack of words. Blue.

Day, everything the sun contains,

Chooses to illuminate,

And leaves shadows and light.

Night, depends, on what of the moon remains,

Reflects in where the Earth holds rain, oh,

Opal in the sky, keep them near.

Hold them dear.

Hold them tightly,

Yet so ever lightly.

Let them go,

Afraid they’ll grow

Up too fast –

Racing life like trains on tracks

Chasing ends.

Oh tell them not to pretend –

Tell them bodies die

And rivers cry.

Its not my fault

I’ve messed it up before.

Leave the door ajar,

In case they find their way

Back home.
